Smoke alarm questions
-
From 1 January 2027, all Queensland houses, townhouses and units need interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms. Interconnected means that when one sounds, they all sound. The alarms must meet Australian Standard AS 3786-2014 and be either hardwired to the mains or powered by a sealed battery made to last 10 years.
-

-
Check that they are photoelectric, that they are interconnected, that they meet Australian Standard AS 3786-2014 and that they are less than 10 years old. They also need to be hardwired to the mains or powered by a sealed battery made to last 10 years. If you are not sure, we can check what you have, tell you what you need and fit it.
-
The owner of the home is responsible for having compliant alarms installed. Landlords and property managers should check that rental properties are covered.
-
The Queensland Government has warned that supply may be limited and prices may rise close to the cut-off date, so it makes sense not to leave it to the last minute. Call us on 0419 718 350 to book a smoke alarm check and installation.
